2009 FALL BALL APPLICATIONPosted

2009 President's Letter

Dear Parents,
You arrive at the complex for your scheduled game, the field is groomed and lined, the grass is cut, the snack bar is well stocked and open for business, sponsors signs are posted, the players and coaches are well organized and in uniforms, by magic right? Well not exactly, only the hard work of your neighbors that sometimes seem like magicians. The approach of the board is to try and involve as many people as possible without overburdening anyone. If you can come out even for an occasional day or two we all benefit. It is fun because you are out with other folks that are also helping. You will make new friends and feel like you are part of something bigger than yourself. Pennsville has been blessed with an incredible Little League Complex. Look at some of the other complexes in our district and you will realize how fortunate we are to have 7 fields. We host softball tournaments every year because of our capacity. But we need help!

There are a few things to report on prior to opening day. The PVLL Board of Directors have approved a league wide redraft. This really doesn't affect Minor divisions or below, because you were doing a redraft every year anyway. This is basically for Major's and above on both side's of the ball. What is involved this year, every child will have to make at least one tryout. The managers will be in place, and only their children and ONE coach's child will be placed on that same team. Everyone else is placed in the redrafting pool. I know that there will be growing pains, but for the greater benefit of all of our children, this will make for a better season. This is something that will probably be done on a yearly basis.

Along with your signup fee, there will be a concession stand contract fee. What does this involve? When you sign up your children, you will be asked to write a seperate check, PER CHILD, in the amount of $50 to the PVLL. This check needs to be postdated for 4/4/09. Your checks will then be placed in a locked safe. They will be attached to your child's roster. PVLL will assign stand coverage-League wide for every team. When you fulfill your stand coverage, your check will then be returned to you. You will be asked to sign a sheet stating that you were there. If for some reason, you did not work your scheduled shift or get it covered, PVLL will cash your check and utilize it to offset the cost of possibly hiring teenagers to cover. I know that this seems like a lot for you, but PVLL relies on our snack shack to keep our signup rates low, and allows us to put money back into our facility for improvements.

New things that will be attempted this year will include possible netting in our fields for safety to property and people, a coach’s database for reporting scores and updates to our local newspaper, concrete walk paths throughout our complex and new uniforms for the children! PVLL is 57 years old this year, and the PVLL Board of Directors realize that we need to take care of our players, fields, and facility. The email address for Pennsville Little League is pvll@verizon.net. The Board of Directors for the Pennsville Little League meet the 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month prior to the general membership meeting. Regular membership meeting times and dates are posted on the calendar pages of this site.

Call on any board member and tell them you'd like to help out. We won't burden you with great responsibilities unless you ask for them. We have fun because we are all working to help each others kids’, which is what makes Pennsville a Great Place to Live! So give a little and live a lot!!! ........and remember to support our sponsors.

Be safe, have fun and have a Great 2009 Season!
